In brief

On Saturday night, multiple explosions rattled Iran’s southern coast. State TV and other agencies said the blasts could stem from U.S. strikes or Iranian forces targeting vessels, but no damage was confirmed.

Sat. night, people in Qeshm, Sirik, Jask and Bandar Abbas heard several loud explosions, the state‑run IRIB network said. The blasts shook residents along Iran’s southern coast in the Persian Gulf.

IRIB said it was not yet clear whether the sounds came from an enemy attack or from the Iranian armed forces firing on vessels that violated rules in the Strait of Hormuz. The official news agency IRNA confirmed two explosions on Qeshm Island, saying the blasts were inside the island. A semi‑official source quoted by Tasnim said the sounds were linked to Iranian control over maritime traffic and that no projectile hit Qeshm.

Both the US Army and Iran’s military were implicated. Tasnim reported that the US had fired two missiles at Qeshm Island early Saturday, calling the attack “minor.” The US Army is said to have carried out minor attacks against Qeshm Island. U.S. President Donald Trump described the action as “minor” during a statement on Friday before the explosions.

"Minor," Trump said in his statement about U.S. forces launching new strikes on Iran’s air defense systems.

The blasts illustrate the fragile situation near the Strait of Hormuz, a route through which a large share of global oil passes. Angry ships and heightened military activity have made the area risky for commerce. Iran’s military says it reacts to shipping that violates its rules, while the US claims it target attacks are limited.

At 03:00, the local TV station reported that no projectile had struck Qeshm Island. No casualties or damage were reported, and the Iranian government said it was investigating causes. If the bombings were an attack, the immediate risk to civilians would be high. If part of operations, the violence would likely end peacefully once the vessels are cleared.

Officials have asked port authorities to guard vessels carefully. The international community watches the Strait closely; any escalation could affect oil prices and shipping schedules worldwide. The situation remains fluid, and new information may surface as investigators dig into the blasts’ origins.
