A South Carolina mother, Holly Ricketson, has filed a lawsuit against Mattel, claiming that a packaging error for a singing doll led her daughter to an adult pornographic website. The dolls were released to coincide with the movie adaptation of "Wicked," starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Ricketson alleges that when her minor daughter discovered the inappropriate link on the doll's packaging, they both felt "horrified" by the explicit content.

Mattel has since apologized and issued a recall for the affected dolls, labeling the situation as an “unfortunate error.” Despite their response, Ricketson is pursuing legal action, asserting that she would not have purchased the doll had she known about the misprint. The lawsuit is seeking $5 million in damages for all U.S. consumers who bought these incorrectly packaged dolls.

The court documents call the misprint an "inexcusable error," accusing Mattel of negligence and violating California's consumer protection laws. Moreover, they note that the company has not offered refunds for the dolls. The musical "Wicked," from which the dolls are based, has been a popular Broadway success since 2003, and the film version has already grossed over $360 million globally since its release. Mattel has yet to respond further to the ongoing lawsuit.
