In brief

On Friday, Israeli forces destroyed the houses of Hamoudeh and Ahmed al‑Jaabari after a shooting that killed two soldiers. The demolition comes amid a week‑long operation that has displaced more than 500 families. Israeli officials say the actions are meant to prevent attacks and protect residents.

Israeli forces blew up the homes of Hamoudeh and Ahmed al‑Jaabari on Friday in the southern West Bank city of Hebron as a week‑long operation that has displaced hundreds of families.

The two were accused of carrying out a shooting in the Farsh al‑Hawa area on Oct. 23 that killed two Israeli soldiers before being killed by Israeli forces.

Engineering units from the military raided the houses, cutting power and demolishing walls, according to Palestinian security sources.

The demolitions forced more families to leave the Deir Baha and al‑Jilda neighbourhoods. The Hebron Governorate Emergency Committee said 537 families, or 3,361 people, had already been displaced since the operation began.

Israeli officials said the operation would continue proactively and offensively to thwart attacks in the West Bank and protect residents in the area.

The operation was launched hours after the Oct. 23 shooting, with the Israeli military pledging to displace residents and carry out demolitions.
