In brief
Attorney General Alejandro Gertz clarifies that despite speculation, there is no proof of cremations linked to missing persons at the Izaguirre ranch, marking a significant development in cartel investigations.
The abandoned Izaguirre ranch in Mexico has stirred controversy, with some groups labeling it an “extermination camp” due to personal items and charred remains found onsite. However, Attorney General Alejandro Gertz announced on Tuesday that there is no evidence supporting claims of human cremations at the site. At a press conference, Gertz confirmed that the ranch near Guadalajara served as a recruitment and training ground for the infamous Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of Mexico’s most violent criminal organizations.Despite earlier statements suggesting possible traces of cremations, Gertz emphasized that forensic studies did not indicate any cremation activities, as temperatures detected were below the 800 degrees Celsius typically required. The investigation revealed small bone fragments but no definitive proof of crematory facilities. The ranch’s dark history also includes testimonies reporting violence against those who resisted training. This announcement is a critical update in ongoing efforts to locate missing individuals and understand the extent of cartel operations in Mexico.
