Chinese giant pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang were unveiled at Zoo Atlanta on Friday after a month of quarantine, marking a major moment in the panda conservation and exchange program between China and the U.S.

Both pandas belong to the species Ailuropoda melanoleuca, the iconic giant panda. They arrived in Atlanta from China in early October.

The quarantine period lasted 33 days, in line with U.S. trade and wildlife regulations that require a thorough health check before release.

Zoo Atlanta, located in the capital of Georgia, is the home of the United States’ first permanent giant panda exhibit.

New officials at the zoo said the arrival follows a decade‑long collaboration that sees pandas trade aboard as a symbol of friendship and science.

"The program is an example of international cooperation on wildlife conservation," said a spokesperson quoted by Xinhua.

The exchange helps scientists study panda genetics, nutrition, and breeding, and it raises global awareness of species protection.

Visitors to the park lined up early to see the new pandas, many of whom hold signs supporting wildlife preservation.

Zoo officials plan to add research facilities next year, allowing scientists to monitor the pandas’ health and behavior closely.

Overall, the debut of Ping Ping and Fu Shuang underscores the shared responsibility of nations to protect endangered species and suggests a hopeful future for panda conservation.
