Hashem Abedi, the brother of Salman Abedi—who perpetrated the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing—has been accused of attacking prison guards at Frankland Prison in Durham, England. Reports state that Hashem, 28, used homemade weapons and even launched hot cooking oil at three officers, resulting in multiple injuries. The Prison Officers’ Association disclosed that the officers suffered “burns, scalds and stab wounds” during the confrontation.

As of the latest updates, one female officer has been treated and discharged from the hospital, while two male officers remain under care. Hashem is currently serving a life sentence, having received a minimum of 55 years due to his involvement in the bombing that claimed 22 lives. The incident has triggered an investigation led by Durham Constabulary, aiming to address escalating violence within prisons.

The UK prison service stated that it’s inappropriate to comment further as the police inquiry unfolds, emphasizing zero tolerance for attacks against prison staff. The Manchester bombing is still remembered as one of the worst terrorist acts in Britain in recent history, drawing significant public attention at the time.
