A gunman was killed and two were injured in a shootout near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul. Two policemen were 'slightly injured' in the gunfight, Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci reported. The attackers had traveled from Izmit in a rental car, two of whom were identified as brothers. Ciftci announced that the shooter killed was named Yunus E.S., allegedly connected to a terrorist group exploiting religion, possibly the Islamic State, although no claims have been made by any group regarding the attack. Initial reports suggested two attackers had died, but it was later clarified that only one was killed. The injured attackers were identified as Onur Ç and Enes Ç. The police officers are not in life-threatening condition. The assailants used firearms in the attack, which occurred in broad daylight, creating panic in the area. Governor Davut Gul confirmed that no Israeli personnel were present at the consulate, as it has been vacant amid strained relations due to the Gaza conflict. An investigation into the incident is underway, following extensive digital communications detected among the attackers. Witnesses reported a prolonged exchange of gunfire lasting 15-20 minutes.
