Rescuers say 20 people have been injured in southern Israel after the Israeli military said a drone was launched from Yemen.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated the drone struck the resort town of Eilat on the Red Sea coast, with attempts made to intercept it.
The Magen David Adom emergency medical service confirmed that 20 individuals were transported to Yoseftal Hospital, two of whom suffered serious limb injuries.
Israeli media has described it as a Houthi strike, although the Yemeni group has not yet claimed responsibility.
Live footage broadcasted by Israeli TV showed smoke billowing from the strike site, with verified social media videos capturing the drone's descent before the strike.
IDF troops were deployed to assist in evacuating the area, implementing a temporary protective alert. The military stated that air raid sirens were triggered in the town.
The attack could mark one of the most severe operations by the Houthis, given the number of casualties. Previously, similar incidents occurred with no injuries reported, amid ongoing conflicts between the Houthis and Israeli forces.
Israel has responded with air strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen as part of the escalating conflict, including recent claims of casualties from those strikes.
The situation remains tense, and further developments are expected as the IDF maintains a focus on defensive and offensive measures in response to such threats.
