In brief
Saudi Arabia’s Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has delivered 33 transport projects aimed at boosting connectivity and economic activity, covering 200 km of roads and key air, land, and sea routes. The work includes road rehabilitation, the Al‑Abr Road, and multi‑phase upgrades to Aden International Airport, forming a part of a broader 300‑project effort to rebuild Yemen’s infrastructure.
On Nov. 6, 2026 the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) announced the completion of 33 transport projects across the country, aiming to improve connectivity and spur economic activity. The projects combine road rehabilitation, air and sea infrastructure upgrades, and key route development.
Implemented across 16 Yemeni governorates, the batch covers roughly 200 km of strategic roads, including internal routes in Aden, Al‑Mahra, and the Socotra Archipelago. The upgrades boost traffic flow, road safety, and access to health and education services.
One highlight is the Al‑Abr Road—a vital link between Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The program finished the first two phases, covering 90 km, and is building the third phase, adding 40 km for a total of 130 km that will carry trade and travelers.
In the Socotra Archipelago the work highlights local transit and flood control, using stone paving that blends with the islands’ environment while respecting the unique geography.
The airport component sees Aden International Airport rebuilt in phases. Early work finished the auxiliary runway, passenger terminal and parking, and air‑cargo facilities. The upcoming third phase will upgrade the main runway, air navigation and communication systems to meet international civil aviation standards.
These transport investments are part of a larger 300‑project portfolio launched in 2018, covering education, health, water, energy, agriculture, fisheries, and government capacity building. The aim is to strengthen logistics, trade links, and accessibility to essential services across Yemen.
By enhancing road, sea, and air routes, the projects seek to open markets, improve healthcare access and support the economic resurgence of Yemen’s key hubs and cities.
