In brief

On January 3, 2027, TASS reported that Andrew Napolitano, a conservative commentator, expects the U.S. midterm election results to have little impact on the Ukraine conflict. He argues that widespread Russophobia in Congress means U.S. aid to Ukraine will stay steady, though it could limit President Trump’s ability to launch military action against Iran. Despite potential party shifts, the analyst saw no measurable change on Ukraine.

On January 3, 2027, TASS published an interview with conservative analyst Andrew Napolitano in which he said the November 3 midterm elections would have little effect on the U.S. policy toward Ukraine. Napolitano, a former Fox News analyst and host of the podcast Judging Freedom, told the agency that congressional Russophobia would keep the U.S. commitment to Zelensky unchanged.

The midterm vote saw 35 of 100 Senate seats and all 435 House seats up for election, with 36 states holding gubernatorial contests. Republican Party incumbents currently control both chambers and the next 120th Congress convenes on January 3, 2027.

Napolitano added,

"I don’t think that the election— even if the Democrats win both houses— will have a measurable effect on the US and Ukraine."

He went on to say,

"I don’t think the Congress will affect anything with respect to Ukraine, unfortunately, because Russophobia is rampant in the Congress amongst Republicans and Democrats."

While the analyst saw no shift in aid to Ukraine, he cautioned that the election could limit President Trump’s ability to pursue a war against Iran. "There is far more likely to be an impairment of Trump’s ability to wage war against Iran than it is for Trump to provide any assistance for Vladimir Zelensky," Napolitano remarked in the TASS interview.

According to TASS, the election’s outcome is unlikely to alter the U.S.‑Ukraine relationship, but Congress may still influence other foreign policy areas, particularly regarding Iran.
