Residents of the French Riviera are on edge as Nice experiences its second significant power outage within just two days. A fire at a local substation, which officials are alleging was a malicious act, left around 45,000 homes without power early Sunday morning. This incident follows a blackout in nearby Cannes that occurred during the prestigious film festival, affecting roughly 160,000 homes.

Local police discovered suspicious tyre tracks and a broken door at the affected substation, intensifying fears of criminal intent. Mayor Christian Estrosi condemned these actions on social media and called for increased security around electric sites in Nice. This recent crisis is under investigation, with claims of "organised arson" being explored as authorities delve into the connection—or lack thereof—between the two incidents.
