A student was arrested after a principal and teacher were shot at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, France, on Monday morning.
The ninth‑grade pupil was detained immediately and is aged 14, according to local mayor Jean‑Pierre Squillari.
Both staff members suffered non‑life‑threatening wounds — a shot in the principal’s leg and one in a teacher’s thigh – and were taken to hospital for treatment.
No other students were harmed; all were secured and moved to safety within seconds.
French officials, including Education Minister Edouard Geffray, confirmed that the offence is not linked to ongoing protests about school conditions.
Geffray will visit the scene with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez later in the day.
