A fire has killed at least 28 people at a shoe factory in Jinjiang, Fujian, China.

The blaze erupted in the middle of the day, sending thick black smoke into the sky, according to footage posted by Xinhua.

Jinjiang, known as China’s shoe capital, is a major hub for footwear manufacturing.

President Xi Jinping said the incident caused “significant casualties,” highlighting the tragedy’s scale.
