An illegal immigrant from El Salvador, Victor Martinez-Hernandez, 24, has been sentenced to life without parole for the brutal murder of Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five. This tragic case occurred in August 2023 on a hiking trail in Bel Air, Maryland. Martinez-Hernandez was found guilty this year of raping and murdering Morin after he assaulted her, bludgeoned her with rocks, and ultimately hid her body in a drainage culvert.

Prosecutors revealed that he was not only involved in Morin’s murder but also linked to a home invasion in Los Angeles. Moreover, he's wanted in El Salvador for another murder. Following a significant 10-month manhunt that concluded in June 2024, he was captured in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Judge Yolanda Curtin handed down his life sentence, emphasizing the severity of his crimes, correlating with earlier calls for heightened border security by President Donald Trump, who cited the case during his campaign.

In a heart-wrenching moment at the trial, the victim's mother, Patty Morin, expressed the lasting impact of her daughter's murder, revealing that it would haunt the family forever. Amidst sorrow, Rachel Morin's brother, Michael Morin, offered forgiveness to the killer while reiterating the family's support for the ongoing push for stricter immigration policies.
