The owner of Jet Set, a lively nightclub in the Dominican Republic, was arrested on Thursday following a horrific incident where 236 lives were lost due to a roof collapse just two months prior. Prosecutors have charged Antonio Espaillat, who comes from a wealth background, including a family-owned radio station chain, with involuntary homicide.

The tragic event took place during a live concert on April 8, prompting a massive rescue operation and sparking national outrage over the state of building inspections across the country. The arrest took place after a club employee revealed that he had previously warned the owners about the roof's dangerous condition, urging them to cancel the concert for safety reasons.

Antonio appeared before the attorney general's office in Santo Domingo on Thursday afternoon, where he was subsequently detained. His sister, Maribel Espaillat, who also played a role in the club's management, has been hit with the same charges. The attorney general's office highlighted their apparent negligence, stating, "They demonstrated immense irresponsibility by neglecting necessary repairs." Allegations have also surfaced that the siblings attempted to intimidate witnesses, hinting at a deeper issue of accountability and safety within the club's operations.
