On July 9, 2025, a Mexican court announced that ten men would each serve over 140 years behind bars for their involvement in horrific crimes at a ranch linked to the notorious Jalisco cartel. Convicted of murdering one person and disappearing two others, these individuals were arrested in September following a shootout at Rancho Izaguirre, situated about six hours from Mexico City.

The case has triggered nationwide outrage, highlighting the brutal practices employed by cartels to recruit and manipulate young individuals. In addition to their prison sentences, the men were ordered to pay around $70,000 in reparations to the victims' families.

Months after the arrests, volunteers searching for missing persons discovered disturbing evidence at the ranch, including human remains and a large collection of personal items such as shoes and clothing. Despite initially speculated underground cremation ovens, officials confirmed that while there was no proof of cremations, the site was actively used for cartel training and operations, shedding light on the grim reality of organized crime in Mexico.
