Frénécine rappele le Covid : la nouvelle menace rencontr—Ebola en France

A French doctor, recently back from a congo humanitarian post, has tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. He was immediately admitted to a specialised centre in Paris and is currently "stable".

The Democratic Republic of Congo declared an outbreak last month. 1,000 infections and 260 deaths are now recorded in the country’s eastern provinces.

This marks the first confirmed Ebola case in Europe. Earlier, an American doctor in Germany tested positive while still in DR Congo.

France’s health minister emphasised that "the risk to the public is very low" but is tracing any contacts the patient may have had.

Healthcare workers face the highest risk as the virus spreads through bodily fluids. No vaccine exists for this strain.

France now runs a dedicated monitoring system for aid workers returning from the DRC, alongside updates from the WHO and Africa CDC, who warn that the outbreak could become one of the largest ever. The eastern provinces remain hotspots, especially Ituri, which accounts for 90% of cases.
