On Saturday morning, a major power outage swept through Cannes, affecting roughly 160,000 homes. According to France’s electrical grid operator, RTE, the power loss began around 10 a.m., causing delays and disruptions in the picturesque city famous for its film festival. Although the cause of the outage remains unknown, RTE confirmed that crews were on the scene, working to restore electricity.

However, organizers of the Cannes Film Festival were quick to respond, implementing their independent power supply to ensure that all scheduled screenings and events, including the highly anticipated closing ceremony, ran smoothly. One theater did experience temporary suspension of its screenings, but overall operations continued unaffected.

Local reports noted that several traffic lights were down in areas surrounding Cannes, prompting state authorities in the Alpes-Maritimes region to advise caution to travelers. Nonetheless, excitement remained high as the Palme d’Or and other awards are set to be presented later that evening, celebrating the glitz and glamour that defines the festival.
