Pop star Lizzo is celebrating a legal victory after a judge dismissed allegations of fat-shaming from a 2023 lawsuit filed by three of her former dancers.
The singer, known for her body positivity anthems, announced this development through a video statement on her Instagram and TikTok accounts. Lizzo emphasized that the dancers were fired not due to weight gain but for taking a private recording of her without permission and sharing it.
Although the fat-shaming claims have been dismissed, the lawsuit continues regarding sexual harassment allegations. The former dancers allege they faced pressure to attend sex shows and other inappropriate interactions, including being coerced into close physical interactions with performers.
Lizzo's legal team labeled the initial lawsuit a fabricated sob story, and while a Los Angeles judge allowed the case to move forward, Lizzo's lawyers are fighting back, arguing that the claims lack merit.
In her statement, Lizzo said the fat-shaming allegations had deeply affected her for the past two years, describing the experience as devastating. She affirmed her commitment to supporting those with larger bodies and stated, I am not settling. I will fight every single claim until the truth is out.
