Oleksandr Usyk, the unified heavyweight champion, made headlines by inviting U.S. President Donald Trump to spend a week in his home in Ukraine. The request comes in light of Trump's previous claims that he could end the war in Ukraine swiftly if re-elected. Usyk has been vocal about the ongoing conflict since it escalated in 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine.

In a recent interview with BBC Sport, Usyk passionately stated, "I advise American President Donald Trump to come to Ukraine and live in my house for one week. Only one week. I will give him my house. Live please in Ukraine and watch what is going on every night." He highlighted the sounds of bombs and airstrikes that have become a nightly norm for many Ukrainians, emphasizing the urgency of understanding the war's impact.

While Trump has faced criticism for blaming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the conflict, Usyk believes that a firsthand experience might change Trump's perspective on the war. He expressed concern for the casualties, stating, "Ukrainian people are dying. It's not just military guys, but children, women, grandmothers, grandfathers."

Usyk has dedicated much of his success in boxing to advocating for peace in Ukraine, standing alongside other prominent athletes like the Klitschko brothers. As he prepares for a rematch against Britain's Daniel Dubois on July 19, he continues to use his platform to draw attention to the plight of his homeland.
