ATLANTA (AP) — After DA Fani Willis was booted from the hot seat over concerns of impropriety, Pete Skandalakis of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia has taken the lead on the election interference case against Donald Trump and 14 other defendants.
The change in leadership comes after Willis was disqualified due to a romantic relationship with her selected special prosecutor, raising eyebrows about potential conflicts of interest. According to Skandalakis, he had trouble finding someone else to take up the case, leading him to step up himself.
Trump, while currently facing electoral hurdles, isn't the only figure in the spotlight; other high-ranking individuals like former Trump aide Mark Meadows and ex-New York mayor Rudy Giuliani are also involved. Skandalakis' goal is to ensure the public's interest in the scandal is addressed while pursuing justice.
Amid various charges stemming from the 2020 election aftermath, the nature and impact of these latest developments remain critical as the case unfolds. What remains to be seen is how this change will affect the prosecution's strategy moving forward.
