Rapper Namewee Detained Amid Influencer's Death Investigation

Controversial Malaysian rapper Namewee has been remanded in custody in connection with the death of a Taiwanese influencer found dead in a Kuala Lumpur hotel bathtub two weeks ago. Police report that Namewee, 42, was the last person seen with 31-year-old Iris Hsieh, who was in Malaysia for a collaboration on a commercial video.
Initially arrested after police found drugs in his hotel room, Namewee denies the charges related to illegal drug use and possession. After being released on bail, he turned himself in again when Hsieh's death was reclassified as murder.
In a twist to the investigation, Namewee disclosed that he contacted emergency services when he discovered Hsieh unresponsive. Despite a positive drug test, he maintains that he did not consume illicit substances and criticizes the media coverage surrounding the incident.
With 3.6 million YouTube subscribers, Namewee has built a reputation for his satirical music that challenges social norms. Meanwhile, Hsieh, known as the 'nurse goddess', gained popularity through her social media presence and had been active on various platforms, including OnlyFans.
Namewee’s case highlights the complicated relationship between celebrity culture and the scrutiny of social media influencers, raising significant questions about accountability and truth in the modern entertainment industry.
