A destructive burst of strong winds and reported tornadoes across the Upper Midwest left rural communities sifting through the destruction that was left behind on Saturday.
Damage was severe in various communities—roofs ripped off homes, tangled power lines, and impassable roads. Fortunately, no deaths were reported. Sheriff Steve Stovall noted, 'We are extremely fortunate that this storm did not result in loss of life or serious injury.'
Similar sentiments were echoed by officials in Wisconsin and Minnesota following a tornado that swept through Kronenwetter and Ringle, trapping some residents in their basements, as reported by Fire Chief Chris Kielman.
Diverse damages were reported, with Marathon County Sheriff Chad Billeb stating he had never witnessed such serious destruction in his 34 years of service. 'A lot of people are going to need a lot of help,' he said.
Many areas, including Olmsted County in Minnesota, experienced significant damage during the storm. Emergency services are now engaged in recovery efforts, checking on residents and clearing debris.
As photos and videos emerge depicting the destruction, state officials emphasize that rebuilding efforts will require time and resources. Governor JB Pritzker has been updated on the continuing response from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
