President Donald Trump has cast another mail ballot in Florida as he continues to publicly bash the voting method as a source of fraud and pushes Congress to curtail the practice.
Palm Beach County voter records show that the president voted by mail in a Tuesday special election for state legislative seats, and that his ballot has been counted. Early in-person voting in the contest ran through Sunday, when Trump was still at his south Florida estate.
The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. While aides have clarified that Trump’s ire is directed at states using universal mail-in voting and not individuals, his recent statements label mail-in voting as “cheating” and “corrupt as hell.”
Trump is calling on Congress to pass the SAVE Act, aiming to bar universal mail ballots and limit voting options only to select individuals, such as those who are disabled, military personnel, or traveling on Election Day. However, this proposal faces significant hurdles in the divided Senate.
His fixation on mail ballots has been evident since he first claimed in 2020 that his electoral loss was due to fraud, despite multiple court findings and statements from his own attorney general confirming no evidence of fraud that impacted the results.
“We’re the only country in the world that does it that way. Corrupt as hell,” he stated during a recent meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.
It's notable that many countries, including traditional U.S. allies in Europe, use some form of mail-in voting successfully.
The SAVE Act is being highlighted by Trump as a critical issue during a time when Congress also engages with pressing matters related to the ongoing conflicts abroad and a potential government shutdown.
Despite his criticisms, Trump has not established a consistent vote-by-mail request for all elections, necessitating individual requests for mail ballots, as confirmed by election records.
