Donald Trump’s Board of Peace unveiled a $2.45bn ($1.85bn £) plan to revive Gaza’s infrastructure at a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The funds will be spread across 66 programmes over the next six months, targeting housing, diesel generators, waste removal, and more.
Even with $18bn pledged, only $280m has been released so far. Full recovery could cost around $71.4bn over the next decade, the board says.
Jared Kushner, the board’s Gaza Executive member and Trump’s son‑in‑law, admitted that the project faces “different delays on different things” but reiterated that the board is fully committed to the effort.
US envoy Steve Witkoff highlighted progress over the past year and praised the historic donations made to meet urgent humanitarian needs.
Challenges remain – securing safety for workers in Gaza, overhauling governance and achieving consensus between Israeli and Palestinian officials. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that many countries have pledged aid, and the board seeks further participation.
