Danish environment officials are preparing to remove the carcass of a humpback whale discovered off the coast of Anholt Island. The dead whale poses potential health risks, prompting calls for locals to stay away.
Found last weekend, the whale was originally part of a rescue attempt after it became stranded along Germany's Baltic Sea coast. Despite efforts to save it, the creature was eventually released into the North Sea but later ended up near the Danish island, approximately 20-30 meters from a beach.
Authorities from Denmark’s environmental protection agency plan to conduct a post mortem examination on the whale and are still deciding on the best way to manage its removal. Meanwhile, islanders are concerned about the whale's decomposition, which could lead to an explosion.
Island locals have expressed mixed feelings about the situation, with some worried while others remain unfazed, considering it a natural occurrence. The whale's saga has attracted widespread interest since its initial stranding, with many visitors drawn to Anholt to learn more.
