US President Donald Trump did not hold back when reacting to Elon Musk’s announcement of a new political party called the America Party. During a press briefing before boarding Air Force One, Trump called the idea “ridiculous” and asserted that America has always been a two-party system.

Musk made waves over the weekend by revealing his plan to form the America Party aimed at challenging the traditional Republican and Democratic parties. The two had enjoyed a strong alliance in the past, especially when Musk was appointed to head the Department of Government Efficiency (also known as Doge), which was aimed at reducing federal spending.

On his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed concern about Musk's recent actions, stating he was “saddened” to see Musk go “completely off the rails.” He specifically targeted Musk’s push for an "Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate," which Trump critiqued for trying to force a rapid transition to electric cars. The president explained that his recent tax and spending legislation, enacted on July 4, ended EV tax breaks while allowing citizens the freedom to choose their vehicle type—whether gasoline-powered, hybrid, or new technologies.

With Musk’s announcement coming alongside their escalating tensions over spending policies, this clash raises questions about the future of their relationship and the political landscape ahead.
