The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has described the attack on Al-Mujlad Hospital in Sudan as "appalling," reporting over 40 deaths, including many children and healthcare workers. This tragic event occurred in West Kordofan state, near active conflict zones where the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are clashing. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the urgent need to halt attacks on healthcare facilities, stressing that the suffering in Sudan has reached catastrophic proportions.

Since the civil war erupted in April 2023, the situation has been dire, with the UN labeling it the world's worst humanitarian crisis. Civilian casualties have soared, and accusations of war crimes against medical staff intensify. The hospital, the only medical facility in the area, served civilians and housed critical operations like a dialysis unit. Despite allegations against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for the attack, responses from the army remain absent.

UNICEF has recently warned of increasing adversities for children, including severe malnutrition and exploitation among uprooted families fleeing to Chad. Horrific reports indicate that children are not only suffering from inadequate services but are also victims of violence, with some facing the unimaginable trauma of sexual abuse. The urgent call for humanitarian aid grows louder, as multiple sectors of the population cry out for help amidst this ongoing turmoil.
