Three suspected members of the Palestinian armed group Hamas have been arrested for allegedly planning attacks on Israeli and Jewish institutions in Germany, prosecutors say. The three men - two of whom are German citizens and one of whom is Lebanese-born - are suspected of having procured firearms and ammunition since the summer to allegedly be used in the attacks, according to Germany's federal prosecutor's office. The men, named as Abed Al G, Wael F M and Ahmad I, were arrested in Berlin on Tuesday, just a day before Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. Hamas, which controls Gaza and is deemed a terrorist organization by the EU, denied any connection to the suspects. The federal prosecutor's office disclosed that various weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle and several pistols, along with a significant amount of ammunition, were seized during the arrests. These weapons were intended for attacks on Israeli or Jewish establishments in Germany. The suspects were apprehended during a planned weapons handover in Berlin, while additional police searches occurred in Leipzig and Oberhausen. They have been charged with preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state and membership in a foreign terrorist organization, with an upcoming court appearance scheduled for Thursday. In a statement, Hamas declared the allegations as baseless, asserting that they aim to undermine German sympathies for the Palestinian people and maintain that it confines its activities within its supposed territorial boundaries. This arrest follows a previous trial in Berlin involving four other Hamas members accused of plotting attacks on Jewish sites across Europe.
