A sausage-loving rivalry is heating up in Germany! Bavaria and Thuringia are at odds over who can stake the claim to inventing the famous Bratwurst sausage. While the "Wurstkuchl" tavern in Bavaria is known as the world's oldest Bratwurst stand, dating back to 1378, historians in Thuringia have dug up a document from 1269 referencing a meat-roasting stall.

This discovery puts Thuringia's capital, Erfurt, in a juicy position, prompting historians to search for the original sausage stand location. Although no restaurant there has claimed the title, prior references to Bratwursts in Thuringia were found only from 1404.

Meanwhile, Wurstkuchl in Regensburg isn’t too fussed about the new claims. Its landlady, Alexandra Meier, says it’s all about the sausage quality, not the age. "It doesn’t bother us at all," she stated, proud of their traditional recipes.

This isn’t the first sausage spat; both Regensburg and Nuremberg previously tussled over the title of oldest sausage stand. Will Erfurt's claims stir the pot further? Stay tuned – this sausage saga is far from over!
