Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, made a rare appearance at the corruption trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, highlighting the Trump administration’s backing of Netanyahu as he faces serious legal charges.
Netanyahu is charged with bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, all while Israel navigates ongoing military conflicts. Huckabee’s visit stands out, as it’s uncommon for ambassadors to intervene directly in a foreign leader's judiciary matters. His action followed President Trump’s controversial call to halt Netanyahu’s trial, which he labeled a “Witch Hunt.”
Speaking at a conference in Tel Aviv, Huckabee characterized his visit as a gesture of friendship and support for Israel’s success, while criticizing the judges involved in Netanyahu’s case for alleged bias. He compared Netanyahu’s situation to Trump's own legal challenges, emphasizing the unique and pressing circumstances surrounding both leaders.
