As Canadians head to the ballot boxes, they experience an election day like no other! Polling stations nationwide are closing their doors at the same time, ensuring a synchronized voting experience despite the country’s six different time zones.
Voters in Newfoundland and Labrador were the first to cast their votes at 8:30 a.m. local time, equating to 7 a.m. in Eastern Time. Meanwhile, Ontario and Quebec, the most populated provinces, have polling hours from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The residents of British Columbia will close their polls a little later, at 10 p.m. Eastern.
Early voting has shown a noticeable increase, with 7.3 million Canadians participating in the early-voting period from April 18 to April 21. That’s a whopping 25 percent jump compared to the last election in 2021!
Elections Canada is happily keeping track of these exciting developments. Remember, every vote counts, so if you haven’t voted yet, make your voice heard!
