In Nairobi's Githurai neighborhood, disaster struck when a Cessna plane, operated by the charity Amref Flying Doctors, crashed shortly after taking off from Wilson airport. The aircraft was flying to Hargeisa, Somalia when it lost both radio and radar contact with air traffic control only three minutes post-departure. Tragically, all four crew members—comprising doctors and nurses—lost their lives, alongside two civilians on the ground. Eyewitnesses recounted a startling explosion and immediate chaos, with smoke billowing from the crash site.

The Kenya Defence Forces and National Police Service swiftly arrived to conduct search and recovery operations. The tragedy has prompted an investigation by aviation authorities to ascertain the cause of the crash. Amidst this somber incident, another separate accident occurred, where a train collided with a bus near Naivasha town, resulting in additional casualties.
