In a heartbreaking incident in Italy, Bruno, a seven-year-old bloodhound celebrated for his heroic work in locating missing persons, was found dead after consuming sausages stuffed with nails. His trainer, Arcangelo Caressa, described Bruno as a "brother" and vowed to uncover those responsible for this brutal act, suggesting it may be linked to retaliation against Bruno for his contributions to dismantling dog fighting rings. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has condemned the "vile, cowardly, unacceptable" act and expressed gratitude for Bruno’s service.

Mr. Caressa discovered the slain dog in his kennel at the Endas search and rescue training centre in Taranto. Following the discovery, he stated, "You fought your whole life to save humans and now it was a human who did this to you."
