Dozens of migrants have found themselves in a challenging situation after being deported to Panama, asking, "Where am I going to go?" Recently released from a detention camp, these individuals, hailing from countries like Afghanistan, Iran, and Cameroon, now sleep in makeshift shelters with no clear path forward.
Upon their arrival, many showed signs of medical distress, needing urgent health care; one migrant was without insulin, while another required H.I.V. treatment. Initially held in a hotel, the Panamanian government later placed them in a guarded camp following a wave of criticism and legal action from human rights organizations.
Although now free, a sense of confusion prevails among the deportees. Many sleep in a gymnasium set up by aid groups, highlighting the desperate situation they face in an unfamiliar country that lacks plans for their future.
