A man who had an assault-style gun used in a horrific mass shooting involving eight children in Shreveport, Louisiana, suspects that the weapon was stolen by Shamar Elkins prior to the rampage. Charles Ford, the gun's previous owner, informed investigators about Elkins, the father of seven of the deceased children, as a possible suspect in the gun's theft. Ford noticed his firearm was missing around March 9 and confronted Elkins, who reportedly responded aggressively. Eventually, Ford was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and making false statements to federal agents regarding the gun. With Elkins dead after a police pursuit, U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller expressed the hope that accountability for the gun's misuse may provide some solace to a grieving community. The tragedy unfolded at dawn, resulting in the deaths of three boys and five girls aged between 3 to 11, along with injuries to Elkins’ wife and another woman. The investigation continues as reports detail Ford's lack of legal representation in court.
