UN commission says Israel is targeted children in Gaza
In a snap‑shot report, the United Nations commission of inquiry says Israeli forces have deliberately targeted Palestinian children in Gaza, labeling the actions as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
The report cites that over 21,000 children have died in Gaza since the October 2023 attack, a figure that the UN health ministry recognises as reliable. It also lists attacks on hospitals, schools and residential buildings that have stripped children of vital medical care and education.
Israel’s foreign ministry blasted the report, calling it a “libellous sham” and “propaganda.” Israeli officials say the military operations are a defensive response to Hamas attacks and that they adhere to international law.
International bodies are watching closely, with the International Court of Justice hearing a case on alleged genocide by Israeli forces, though a verdict could come years away.
While the report paints a grim picture of the war’s impact on children, it also fuels a heated debate over justice, accountability and the future of the region.
