Northern Italy is in a state of emergency as Florence and Pisa face severe flooding and potential landslides. Red weather alerts have been issued across parts of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, prompting residents to stay vigilant. Torrential rain has caused rivers to swell, with the Arno river in Pisa reaching alarming levels.

Local officials reported landslides and mudslides in Bologna, leading to evacuations ahead of a heavy downpour. Fortunately, no casualties have been recorded thus far. A remarkable rescue operation took place in Badia Prataglia where a family of four was saved from a landslide.

Both Florence and Pisa are taking action, with flood defenses being erected in Pisa and heavy calling for caution from Tuscany’s president. Roads have been badly affected, with fallen trees blocking paths and the A1 motorway partially closed to traffic. Tragically, over 60 schools in Tuscany have shut down along with several campuses of the University of Florence amidst the crisis.

As rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day, the situation remains critical, with memories of past devastating floods still fresh in the minds of residents.
