NEW YORK (AP) — The runway where an Air Canada plane collided with a fire truck at New York’s LaGuardia Airport has reopened after extensive repairs and inspections. This tragic incident took place late Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of two pilots and causing dozens of injuries, many of which required hospitalization.

The Port Authority stated that operations resumed around 10 a.m. Thursday, emphasizing that the runway met all safety regulations as outlined by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Although the second runway has now reopened, the airport has reported a significant number of flight cancellations and delays, advising travelers to check their flight statuses before heading to the airport.

In a subsequent update, the airline confirmed that plans to place the Air Canada jet in a hanger are underway. The company also pledged to reunite passengers with their belongings, most of which have since been recovered. Detailed investigations of the crash are still ongoing, with the National Transportation Safety Board taking the lead.

As a result of the collision, about 40 individuals received treatment for various injuries, with most of them having already been released from the hospital. The accident has raised questions about runway safety at one of the nation’s busiest airports, and the ongoing investigation will hopefully prevent future occurrences.
