Lil Nas X's Assault Case: Mental Health Program May Dismiss Charges
A judge in California has granted rapper Lil Nas X entry into a mental health diversion program after he was arrested for attacking police officers while wandering nearly naked through the streets of Los Angeles in August 2025.
In a hearing on Monday, the judge told the Grammy-winning artist (real name Montero Lamar Hill) that the charges may be quashed if he completes the program and obeys all laws for the next two years.
I'm thankful. Just very thankful, Hill told Rolling Stone after the hearing. It could have been much worse.
Hill was arrested late at night on Ventura Boulevard in his underpants and cowboy boots, charged with attacking a police officer and resisting arrest, and taken to hospital due to concerns about a possible overdose.
If found guilty, he faces felony charges that could lead to up to five years in prison if he fails to complete the judge-ordered treatment.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges last year, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder following the incident, and his behaviour was described as aberrant from his normal conduct by Judge Alan Schneider.
Hill's lawyer pointed out that he had spent two months in a treatment facility in Arizona after his arrest. Following his hearing, the rapper flashed a thumbs up to journalists, thanking them for their support.
Reflecting on the emotional burden behind his struggles, Hill's father remarked on the pressures faced by the young artist, highlighting the toll it takes to balance personal issues while being a public figure.
