Police have detained a person in connection to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of US news anchor Savannah Guthrie.

Police are also searching the home of the person, who was taken into custody at a traffic stop, sources familiar with the investigation told CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department later confirmed that police were conducting a court-authorized search at a location in Rio Rico, south of Tucson, Arizona.

Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her home near Tucson more than a week ago, sparking a widespread search and desperate appeals from her family.

Authorities have not released any details about the person being held.

Meanwhile, a woman has been speaking to US media outlets. She identified herself as the mother-in-law of the detained person and claimed he has nothing to do with the case, stating, They're just invading my property, according to CBS.

The news of the detention came just hours after the FBI released images and videos of a masked person at Nancy Guthrie's doorstep on the night of her disappearance. The individual was reportedly armed and tampering with her door camera.

Savannah Guthrie shared the video on Instagram, urging that someone may recognize the person. She emphasized the urgency of the situation: We believe she is still out there. Bring her home. The family has expressed concern for Nancy's health, indicating that her condition is fragile and she is without her necessary medication due to the circumstances of her disappearance.

In further statements, police confirmed they found blood on Nancy's porch, identified as hers, raising alarms over her wellbeing. The FBI is now offering a $50,000 reward for information related to the case.
