Kenya's foreign minister, Musalia Mudavadi, has confirmed that Russia has agreed to stop deploying Kenyan nationals to fight in the ongoing war in Ukraine. This decision follows talks held in Moscow, where Mudavadi emphasized that Kenyans would no longer be eligible for enlistment via Russia's defense ministry. Despite Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's insistence that foreign fighters joined 'voluntarily', there are reports indicating that many Kenyans were misled into joining with false promises of jobs. A recent intelligence report indicated that over 1,000 Kenyans were recruited for this purpose. The Kenyan government is also seeking to repatriate those wishing to return home, having already successfully brought back 27 individuals. The situation has raised significant public concern, leading families to protest outside parliament in Nairobi, calling for a resolution and the safe return of their loved ones.
