In brief

Israel successfully shot down a missile from Houthi militants in Yemen, with tensions rising as attacks on Israel have increased in response to the Gaza conflict.

Israel's military reported intercepting a ballistic missile launched by Houthi militants in Yemen, a day after Israel's defense minister warned of aggressive actions against the group's leadership. The interception occurred early Tuesday as sirens blared across central Israel, signaling an urgent response. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the incident. This escalation comes amid a series of Houthi attacks targeting Israel in support of Palestinian allies since the outbreak of conflict with Hamas on October 7, 2023. The Iran-backed Houthis have been increasingly active, launching multiple rocket and drone assaults against Israel throughout December. Recently, a missile struck Tel Aviv after evading Israel's defenses, while another damaged a school near the area.In retaliation, Israeli forces have intensified airstrikes on Houthi positions, but the effectiveness of these measures in curbing the threats posed by the group remains uncertain. The ongoing Houthi attacks not only pose a challenge to Israel but also risk international trade routes through the Red Sea.
