AWS announced its Semarak AI Malaysia program on November 4, 2026 at AWS Cloud and AI Day in Kuala Lumpur. The initiative aims to train up to 445,000 government officers and 10,000 small and medium enterprises in artificial intelligence.

The program was introduced to move beyond initial AI adoption and give Malaysians the skills and tools needed to build their own AI solutions. Target participants include civil servants, students, software companies, and community groups.

Alongside the training rollout, AWS confirmed a 29.2 billion ringgit (about 7.18 billion U.S. dollars) commitment to Malaysia’s AI ecosystem, which will support the development of local software and enhance competitiveness in the region.

By equipping public sector workers and local businesses with AI expertise, the program seeks to accelerate digital transformation across government services and the private sector, boosting innovation and economic growth.
