In brief
Laboratory tests conducted between Oct. 30 and Nov. 3 confirmed the presence of the toxin‑producing organism in the Belait, Tutong, and Brunei‑Muara districts. Health officials advise citizens to avoid collecting or eating small fish, shellfish, or any dead fish to prevent toxin exposure.
Brunei’s coastal waters are still affected by red tide, the Department of Fisheries announced on Nov. 4.
The agency reported that laboratory tests carried out from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3 confirmed the presence of the organism that produces the harmful toxin in the Belait, Tutong and Brunei‑Muara districts, and that the phenomenon continues to impact Brunei Bay.
Officials urged the public not to collect or consume small fish species, any type of shellfish, or any fish found dead, as these marine products may be contaminated with toxins that pose a health risk.
