Both Rakshitha Raju and Simran Sharma are proof that determination knows no bounds. Born blind in a remote Indian village, Rakshitha faced skepticism from her community. However, encouragement from a school sports teacher ignited her athletic journey. With the help of her dedicated guide runner, Rahul Balakrishna, Rakshitha has emerged as a leading middle-distance para-athlete in India, proudly winning gold at multiple Asian Games and becoming the first blind Indian woman to compete in Paralympics.
Simran's path to success as a sprinter began when she recognized her need for a guide after realizing the importance of synchronization during races. Partnering with 18-year-old Abhay Kumar, Simran quickly learnt the ropes of guide running, claiming a bronze medal at her first Paralympics in Paris.
Despite their success stories, both Rakshitha and Simran face challenges concerning the lack of support for guide runners, who often aspire for a stable career path. But these talented athletes remain hopeful for their futures, with dreams of podium placements at upcoming events. With sponsorship deals and public attention growing, they aim to become role models for other aspiring athletes in India, proving that dreams can soar above all odds.
