Bountiful Bug Battle: Philippines Pays for Mosquitoes to Fight Dengue
A Philippine town is offering cash for mosquitoes to combat a rise in dengue fever cases.
In a creative twist on health measures, Barangay Addition Hills in Manila has set up a program that pays residents one peso for every five mosquitoes, as dengue cases spike. Village chief Carlito Cernal initiated this bounty after witnessing the tragic loss of two students due to the disease. While social media is rife with mockery of the plan, Mr. Cernal insists it's a necessary step to protect community health. Currently, 21 people have participated, yielding nearly 700 bugs brought in. Amid rising dengue cases, health officials are urging effective preventive practices and public awareness.
