Israeli drones strike southern Lebanon

17 people died in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanese towns.

Israeli jets and drones launched a series of attacks across southern Lebanon yesterday, killing at least 17 civilians. The strikes hit towns such as Tayr Debba, the coastal city of Sidon and the port city of Tyre.

Key locations:

  • Tayr Debba – 9 people killed in at least four strikes.
  • Sidon – a car was hit by a drone, killing two people.
  • Tyre – one person died in the Massaken al‑Shaabiya area; 11 others were killed in other parts of the city.

Hezbollah says its fighters fired rockets and shells at Israeli forces in the region, while Iranian officials warned of broader hostilities if Israel keeps attacking Lebanon.

The United Nations has sent a human‑rights team to investigate possible violations by all parties since the conflict began in March. The team will present findings in late July, which could lead to prosecutions for war crimes.

The war, sparked by an Iranian‑backed group’s rocket attack on Israel after a strike that killed Iran’s supreme leader, has killed thousands and displaced almost a million Lebanese people. The US brokered a ceasefire in April, but fighting has continued, raising concerns about a wider regional crisis.
