American teenager Ethan Guo, 19, has found himself in a tight spot on King George Island in Antarctica. After submitting a mistaken flight plan, authorities in Chile apprehended him, putting a hold on his ambitious goal of flying to every continent, an endeavor that has garnered attention from over a million followers online.

Guo, piloting a small Cessna 182, took off from Punta Arenas, only to trigger alert protocols when he deviated from the original plan. He’s now in custody at Teniente R. Marsh airport on the island, which is rife with international research stations. Chile's General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics stated that his actions breached aeronautical regulations and potentially the Antarctic Treaty, which governs the continent's international relationships.

Though facing legal challenges, Guo made a brief statement on X, assuring fans, "I'm alive everyone, I'll make an update soon." He hopes to be the first to fly solo across all seven continents while raising $1 million for cancer research at St. Jude’s. Guo’s journey spans over 140 days, with six continents already checked off his list.
