A single Israeli strike on a prayer hall's roof in southern Lebanon killed one and wounded twelve, as the Lebanese health ministry confirmed. The attack was said by the Israeli army to be a response to a “blatant violation of the ceasefire” by the Iran‑backed Hezbollah group.
Earlier that day the Israeli military issued its first evacuation order in south Lebanon in over a month, telling residents of the town of Mansouri to leave the area before “forceful action” would be taken.
Hezbollah, which has been a key player in the region’s recent flare‑ups, has refused to endorse the latest trilateral framework that was agreed in late June, dismissing it as crossing “all red lines.” The framework calls for Israel to gradually pull out of its occupied territory in exchange for Hezbollah’s disarmament.
The evacuation order is particularly significant as the Lebanese army has recently begun deploying in “pilot zones” following Israel’s withdrawal from the village of Zawtar al‑Gharbiyeh. Israeli officials say the town lies within the 10‑kilometre “security zone” still under Israeli control, making the area a potential target for future attacks.
The UN’s humanitarian office reports that more than 820,000 people displaced by the conflict are now returning home, although about 360,000 remain displaced, including those in government shelters. Since the ceasefire, the Lebanese health ministry has recorded 353 deaths, while the Israeli authorities confirm 38 Israeli soldiers and four civilians have died on either side of the border.
